Admission is officialized when the payment of the registration fee and all the requested papers are sent to C.O.S. Secretariat within 30 days from the date when the exam session is established. In case of redundant requests the date of receipt shall be taken as a proof.
Accepting the late requests is at discretion of the President of C.O.S. Examinating Board depending on how many are the candidates. If impossible, the redundant requests will be postponed to the following exam session.
People who decide to display a thesis have to send it to C.O.S. Secretariat within the 30th day before the date of the exams.
C.O.S. Secretariat sends to candidates a convocation which includes date, hour and place of the exam itself within 15 days from the exam by letter (or other medium).
For any further indications about exams, admission to them or registration on Professional List please see the Internal Regulation.
The Candidate will accomplish a treatment (evaluation and related treatment) of about 30 minutes on an Examiner. He/she will explain his/her personal working method and his/her technique. This test is at complete discretion of the Candidate, but it has to include different parts of the body and/or different energetic routes, to make the treatment as much complete as possible.
Examinating Board reserves itself the possibility to demand a further treatment of about 10 minutes to be done on another Examiner to drive out any contingent doubt.
Throughout the pratical tests the Candidates will be judged by at least one Examiner.
"Shiatsu Pressure" as it is ratified by its main principles and the use of thumbs, fingers, hand palms and if need be elbows will be considered necessary for the evaluation of the test. The execution of other disciplines or the use of other parts of the body must be considered exclusively as accessory.
Examiners will judge methodology and ability to structure the treatment, approach of the Operator to the Beneficiary, perpendicularity, ability of retention, presence and support of the pressure, use of Operator weight, postures, breathing and use of Hara, the anatomical knowledge of energetic zones and/or paths that have been treated from a formal and technical point of view.
The are two possible kinds of test, which involves each Candidate individually:
a) Display a thesis on a matter relevant to the personal experience of the Candidate as a Shiatsu Operator (internship, particular cases, links to other disciplines or traditional Medicine etc.) and discuss it with the Examinating Board, which reserves itself the possibility to make general questions to complete the exam in case it is considered to be insufficient for evaluation. In order to give a correct judgement, the Candidate has to send to the School his/her educational program.
How to present the thesis: within 15 days from the day of the exam the Candidate has to send by email to the Secretariat his/her thesis. If this does not arrive as scheduled, the Examinating Board will not take it into account and the Candidate will have to take the second kind of theoretical test (see next clause).
Contents of the thesis: thesis must be the result of a personal path given by true and actual activity as Shiatsu Operator. Its content must be comprehensible and explanatory of practical and theoretical means used while making treatments. Thesis must be about 30 pages long and includes:
- general description of fulfilled treatments
b) General questions starting from the treatment fulfilled during the practical test.
History and origins
Main principles of pressure according to the vision of the incoming school
Fundamental postures of the Operator (seiza, lifted seiza, pointed seiza, archer or samurai)
Knowledge of a kata (general treatment) in which the Beneficiary is treated in basic positions (supine, prone, side decubitus and in case seated)
Fundamental concepts of Kyo and Jitsu (empty and full), if used

Topographic anatomy functional to Shiatsu
In both cases Examiners will judge the descriptive and expository ability of the Candidate while speaking of the different topics and, of course, the knowledge of them.
It will be communicated directly to each Candidate, who, taken cognition, will sign the report of the exam and contextually will give his/her approval on a specific form to divulge his/her personal data for professional purposes.
The two different tests will be separately evalued, in order to allow the Candidate, if need be, to repeat only one of the two in a later exam session.
